Water’s Fall

She can’t think about it anymore.

Turning the knob from C to H, she toyed with the temperature, tipping her toes in. Can she withstand the heat?

A waterfall cascaded over her upturned face, forcing her eyes shut.

She didn’t want to see, anyway.

Her scalp tingled as suds washed away yesterday’s debris. She wondered if a more powerful showerhead might better numb her brain.

Water’s steady flow cleansed sticky toxins from her veins. Detached, she stared as sloughed off cells swirled in familiar patterns then disappeared down the drain.

How will she resist that magnetic invitation to follow?
